Spin Genie review

Spin Genie is one face of a company that runs several casinos under one licence, and the useful question is which protections cross from one brand to the next.

Our ratingnone, for lack of a direct test (why)

Spin Genie began as a brand of Gaming Realms, a company based in Reading, before SkillOnNet acquired it and relaunched it, according to the history on the casino's own "About us" page. Today the site is run by Skill On Net Limited, a Maltese company whose licence also covers PrimeSlots, Prime Casino, ICE36, Mega Casino and Lord Ping, among others. Each of those brands has its own name and look (Spin Genie's symbol is a magician), while the company on the other side of the contract is the same.

The question that runs through this review is what one licence behind several faces means for a player, above all on the two days when it matters most: the day a player wants to stop, and the day something goes wrong. We have read the terms published on spingenie.com (version 1.6, last updated on 3 December 2024), the bonus policy (version 1.41 of 31 July 2024) and the corporate pages of SkillOnNet.

Who runs Spin Genie, and under which licence

The terms name Skill On Net Limited (office at Quantum House, Abate Rigord Street, Ta' Xbiex) as the operator under licence MGA/CRP/171/2009/01 of the Malta Gaming Authority, issued on 1 August 2018. The number keeps the year of the first Maltese licence, 2009, which SkillOnNet's own timeline also gives as the date of its first casino platform.

SkillOnNet describes itself as a company founded in 2005, with its head office in Cyprus and "50+" casino sites in its portfolio, some its own and some run for partners (Genting Casino among them), all on its "proprietary" platform. The marketing of Spin Genie belongs to Kinetic Digital, which a SkillOnNet announcement of 29 November 2023 presents as the new name of its marketing company, Prime Gaming.

The home and "About us" pages of spingenie.com state a licence from the Gambling Commission (the register entry they link to is account 39326) and show prices in pounds. For players in Great Britain this brings the national self-exclusion scheme ("GAMSTOP") into play, and the Commission's technical standards (RTS 14B) rule out cancelling a withdrawal. The terms published on the same site name the Maltese licence, and what follows concerns those terms, which are the ones we have read in full.

What sets Spin Genie apart

What sets Spin Genie apart is, oddly, what it shares. A player who knows the brand may also meet PrimeSlots or ICE36, which look different and belong to the same company under the same licence, and the terms decide which protections travel between them (our page on casino groups describes the pattern across the industry).

What crosses from one brand to another under the Skill On Net licence (terms of use, version 1.6)
Tool or ruleWhat the terms say
Self-exclusion, from 24 hours to indefiniteThe player chooses: this account only, or all accounts, current and future, under the licence
Deposit limits, daily, weekly or monthlyThis account only; limits must be set on each account
A request to limit playBonuses, cashbacks and personal offers already extended are forfeited, and the VIP level may drop
WithdrawalsMay be withheld if the player has another account restricted by the responsible gaming tools
ComplaintsSupport, then a manager within 96 hours, then eCOGRA (binding) or the Malta Gaming Authority

The self-exclusion clause is the strongest of the list. The "Player Limitation Facility" offers exclusions from 24 hours to indefinite (a longer or indefinite exclusion is requested through support), and the player chooses whether an exclusion covers only the account in use or all the accounts, current and future, under the licence. In our view the second option is the one to take; it closes the doors of the sister brands with a single request.

Deposit limits do not travel. A limit applies to the account on which it is set, and a player with other accounts under the licence must set limits on each. A player who fixes a weekly limit of $200 at Spin Genie and keeps an old account at PrimeSlots can still deposit $200 more there, $400 in a week that felt capped at $200!

Two further clauses tie the brands together in a way that favours the operator. A request to limit play forfeits the bonuses, "cashbacks" and personal offers already extended (the "VIP level" may drop as well), and a withdrawal can be withheld if the player holds another account that the responsible gaming tools have restricted, which our page on responsible gambling puts in context.

The games

The lobby counts its games in thousands, although the site's own pages disagree on the figure (more than 4,000 on the home page, more than 7,000 on the "About us" page). The categories run from slots, jackpots and an "Exclusive Games" shelf to "Slingo" (a hybrid of slots and bingo), bingo rooms, instant-win games and live game shows from Evolution and Playtech.

The platform's own description (on SkillOnNet's site) adds two features worth reading with care: lobbies arranged by artificial intelligence according to each player's habits, and "Hot & Cold" displays of streaks at live tables, which SkillOnNet presents as an aid to decisions. A streak describes the past and predicts nothing, since each spin of a wheel is independent of the last, as our page on roulette strategies explains.

The welcome offer, and the condition to read first

The welcome offer is a first-deposit offer built on free spins on one specified slot, which are credited automatically (on the page that we read), and its figures change by market, so we do not print them. The bonus policy sets the rules for every promotion: the "real balance" is always played before the "bonus balance", and a withdrawal, if the player asks for one, cancels the whole bonus balance, winnings included.

The clause to read before any other is subtler. A bonus counts as a "non-deposit" bonus, with a cap on what it can win (a ceiling written into the bonus policy, unless a promotion says otherwise), whenever the real balance at the moment of crediting is lower than the most recent deposit. A player who deposits $60, plays down to $25 and then receives free spins holds spins that count as non-deposit, because $25 is less than $60, and the cap applies to whatever they win!

The same policy treats an attempt to register several accounts to gain bonus money as "bonus abuse", with suspension and removal of funds, which is a clause to keep in mind in a family of brands. Our guide to welcome bonuses explains how conditions of this kind are read when one offer is compared with another.

The operators listed on our pages address the international, non-regulated market and do not hold a licence in every country from which our readers arrive: before registering, it is the player's responsibility to check that the law of the country in which he or she is located allows playing with that operator.

Deposits, withdrawals and timings

A withdrawal stays "pending" until midnight GMT of the day after the request, and the "Accounts Department" then processes it during the next business day, provided that it has every document it needs. Until the payment is complete the Maltese terms let you reverse the request (the British rules do not), which is the moment when a pending period turns into a temptation.

The terms add a "closed loop" (money returns to the method used for the deposit) and a ceiling of 10,000 euros of winnings every thirty days, with larger sums paid in monthly instalments. Each transaction is capped at 5,000 euros, and a withdrawal made without prior real-money play costs a fee of five euros. Player funds are held in a separate bank account, protected from creditors in case of insolvency, and an account becomes "inactive" after six months without access, with a monthly fee that the operator may charge from then on.

Identity checks

No withdrawal is processed until the player has supplied, and the operator approved, proof of identity (an identity card or driving licence), proof of address (a utility bill or a bank statement), proof of ownership of the payment method where relevant and proof of where the money for gambling comes from (the "source of funds"); if you upload them before the first request, as the terms advise, the check costs no time at the cashier.

Complaints follow the same company across brands: support first, then a manager who answers within 96 hours, then eCOGRA as the MGA-approved "ADR" (alternative dispute resolution) service, whose ruling is binding, or a complaint to the Malta Gaming Authority itself. The ADR's rules ask that at least two weeks have passed since the problem began and exclude disputes older than one year, so it is worth keeping the dates.

For whom, and for whom not

Spin Genie suits a player who wants a casino of slots, Slingo and bingo under the Maltese licence named in its terms and the British one shown on its home page; it also suits one who values the option to exclude from a whole family of brands with one request. It suits less a player who already holds accounts at sister brands and expects a deposit limit to follow, or one who dislikes cash-outs capped per month.

The family structure works both ways, which is why the two directions deserve the same attention. It makes self-exclusion stronger than at a casino that stands alone, and it also means that a restriction placed on one account can hold up a withdrawal at another.

Opening an account at Spin Genie

Before registering, it is worth checking whether you already hold an account under the same licence (PrimeSlots, Prime Casino, ICE36, Mega Casino or Lord Ping, among others), since several clauses of the terms look at every account a player holds under the licence; Rand Casinos is paid by SkillOnNet's affiliate programme when a reader registers through our links, which leaves the terms of your country's version as the contract to read first.

Questions about Spin Genie

Who operates Spin Genie?

Skill On Net Limited, a Maltese company of the SkillOnNet group, under licence MGA/CRP/171/2009/01 from the Malta Gaming Authority, which also covers PrimeSlots, Prime Casino, ICE36, Mega Casino and Lord Ping, among others.

Does a self-exclusion at Spin Genie apply to the sister brands?

Only if the player chooses it: the terms let an exclusion cover the single account or all accounts, current and future, under the licence.

Do deposit limits carry over between Spin Genie and PrimeSlots?

No: under the terms a limit covers only the account on which it is set, so each account needs its own.

Where can a complaint about Spin Genie go?

To customer support, then a manager (answer within 96 hours), then eCOGRA, the dispute service approved by the MGA, or the Malta Gaming Authority itself.
