| Our rating | none, for lack of a direct test (why) |
888 Casino has been open to players since 1997 and its owner listed in London since September 2005 (the month comes from the operator's "About" page); in May 2024, two years after buying William Hill, the group took the name evoke plc, which also owns Mr Green.
This review follows one question, what a listed owner changes for a player, and in our view the answer is less a matter of reputation than of documents, because its results and strategic decisions must be published, as are its regulators' sanctions. We have read those papers beside the licensing page, the non-British user agreement (version 106.0 of 5 August 2026) and the withdrawal pages, as our method requires.
Who runs 888 Casino, and under which licence
A player outside Britain, Ireland and the European single market contracts with Virtual Global Digital Services Limited, a Gibraltar company (number 114612) of the evoke group, which holds Gibraltar licences 112 and 113, supervised by the Gambling Commissioner. The government's register of licence holders, kept under section 14 of the Gambling Act 2025, confirms both, one for remote gaming and one for betting, and names "888 Casino" among the "approved brands".
Other players belong to other companies, as the table shows, and this is the first practical consequence of a group that is licensed in several places. The terms of an account, the tools that protect it and the regulator that hears a complaint all depend on where the player lives, so two readers may hold two different contracts with the same brand.
| Player's location | Company | Regulator and licence |
|---|---|---|
| Outside Great Britain, Ireland, the European single market and markets with a local licence | Virtual Global Digital Services Limited (Gibraltar) | Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner, RGL No. 112 and No. 113 |
| Great Britain | 888 UK Limited (Gibraltar) | Gambling Commission, account 39028 |
| European single market, where no local licence applies | Virtual Digital Services Limited (Malta) | Malta Gaming Authority, MGA/CRP/121/2006-09, issued 22 September 2025 |
| Republic of Ireland | 888 Eire Limited (Gibraltar) | Gibraltar RGL No. 112 for casino and poker, GRAI-1090-RB-26-0001 for betting |
A listed owner must also announce what happens to it, and the past year has been busy. The board opened a "strategic review" on 10 December 2025 and agreed on 5 June 2026 to a recommended all-share acquisition by Bally's Intralot S.A., which the shareholders approved on 17 August 2026. The latest update that we have read (September 2026) still awaited regulatory approvals and the sanction of the Gibraltar court.
The same openness covers sanctions: on 15 August 2023 Gibraltar's Gambling Division announced a settlement of 2.9 million pounds with Virtual Global Digital Services over its anti-money-laundering controls on "VIP" accounts, and the British register lists three smaller penalties against 888 UK Limited since August 2024, each reported by the licensee itself.
What sets 888 Casino apart
Many casinos rent their whole catalogue from the same studios, whereas 888 states that an in-house team "develops from scratch" games exclusive to the brand, and the lobby still runs promotions on games of the in-house label "Section8". In January 2020 the group's director of casino and games told Gambling Insider that the studio had made about 125 of roughly 1,000 games (one title in eight).
That matters for a reason unrelated to novelty: a game found only at 888 has no twin elsewhere to compare with, so the "RTP" stated in its information panel (the return to player, the share of stakes paid back over time) is the only reference. It is worth reading before the first spin. The platform is the group's own as well (the 2025 results describe the migration of Mr Green "to the in-house 888 platform").
The games
The operator speaks of more than 2,000 games, and beside the in-house titles the lobby carries the familiar studios, from Evolution, Playtech and Pragmatic Play to Games Global, Red Tiger and NetEnt, while the live tables for blackjack, roulette and baccarat come from Evolution and Playtech.
Two clauses of the user agreement, in our reading, concern a player who likes jackpots. Since 25 July 2024 "FreePlay" and free spins cannot be used to win a progressive jackpot, and the operator may "decommission" a progressive jackpot, in certain circumstances before anyone has won it.
The casino also publishes a monthly "payout percentage", reviewed by independent auditors according to its security page, but that figure covers the whole casino rather than one game. If you read, say, 96 per cent there, you learn nothing about the slot on the screen, and our page on RTP and volatility explains why the two numbers should not be confused.
The welcome offer, and the condition to read first
The welcome offer at 888 is a first-deposit offer whose form changes with the market (a match of the deposit, free spins, or both), and we do not print its amounts, which move with country and season. The user agreement does not move: it divides every balance into "Available Funds" (deposits, their winnings and bonus money that has completed its "wagering", the bets required before a withdrawal) and "Restricted Funds" (unwagered bonus, its winnings, free spins and vouchers).
Here the order of spending decides everything. The next bet always uses Available Funds, and Restricted Funds come into play only once the cash is at zero; a player who deposits $150 and accepts, as an example, a $150 bonus with a wagering of thirty times the bonus must bet $4,500, the first $150 of it from the deposit. If those bets lift the cash to $400 with the bonus untouched, any attempt to withdraw forfeits all Restricted Funds, so taking out even $100 costs the whole bonus!
Winnings from Restricted Funds are capped at a fixed sum per currency written in the agreement (verified progressive jackpots excepted). A player who has or has had an account at any site of the company, in-house brand or "white label" run for a partner, gets no second welcome bonus unless the operator decides otherwise. Our guide to wagering requirements applies the same arithmetic to offers of other casinos.

The operators listed on our pages address the international, non-regulated market and do not hold a licence in every country from which our readers arrive: before registering, it is the player's responsibility to check that the law of the country in which he or she is located allows playing with that operator.
Deposits, withdrawals and timings
The operator's table opens every withdrawal with a "pending" period of three business days (one for casino "Gold VIP" members), during which the request can be reversed. Then comes the method: one to two business days for e-wallets, as many as five for a Visa card and four to seven for a bank transfer, up to eight business days in all by card and seven to ten by wire.
The calendar is worth working out once. A player who asks for a bank transfer on a Friday sees the pending period end on the Wednesday after, and the money may reach the bank as late as the Friday two weeks after the request, fourteen days for money already won! Reversal can be switched off through live chat, which we would advise if you are tempted to play the money again.
The withdrawal policy (last updated on 16 April 2024) follows a "closed loop": money returns first to the methods used for deposits, up to the sum deposited with each, and only the excess may go elsewhere. Winnings above 30,000 in the account currency may be paid in monthly instalments, jackpots in as many as twenty-four, and an account without a login for 365 days becomes "inactive", with a monthly fee of five euros (or the equivalent) while a balance remains.
Under the Gibraltar contract complaints follow a written ladder, which runs from live chat to a "Second Opinion Team" by email that decides within fourteen days and then to the Gambling Commissioner; a clause worth knowing is that no dispute is considered more than seven days after the transaction concerned.
Identity checks
The withdrawal policy asks for a photographic document (passport, driving licence or identity card) at the first withdrawal, both sides of each card used (middle eight digits and security code covered) and a recent proof of address, with notarised copies in some cases. A request held for verification leaves the player seven days to complete it before the money returns to the balance.
In our view the documents should go in before the first withdrawal, which takes the seven-day clock out of the picture. The tools are less unified than a single group might suggest: a deposit limit applies only to the site where it is set (support can extend it) and a "Take a Break" suspends only that brand, whereas a "self-exclusion" of six months or more can cover every site of the company.
For whom, and for whom not
888 suits a player who wants an owner, licences and sanctions open to public checking, who is curious about in-house games found nowhere else and who reads a bonus as a contract (the cash-first rule is clear once read). It suits less a player in a hurry, since three business days of pending come before the method starts, or one hoping to cash out while a bonus runs.
One element weighs on the judgement this autumn. Once completed, the takeover approved in August 2026 will place the casino in another group, and although a new owner does not by itself alter a licence or a contract, we would advise rereading the terms afterwards (the version number at the foot of the agreement shows any change).
Opening an account at 888 Casino
The form opens on the version of the site that matches the country you connect from, whose user agreement, bonus rules and withdrawal table are the documents to read before a first deposit; if you open the account through a link on this page, Rand Casinos receives a commission from the operator, which changes neither your terms nor what we wrote about them.
