Online casinos for readers in the United States

In the United States each state decides what may be offered online, and this page is written for readers in fourteen of them.

Readers connecting from fourteen American states see this page in place of the Rand Casinos pages that present operators: the seven where online casinos are licensed, Maine, which has authorised them without opening its market yet, and six states whose laws reach those who promote unauthorised online gambling, not only those who run it. In the United States the question is settled state by state, and federal law, such as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, refers to the law of the state in which a bet is placed or received.

The casinos described on the rest of our site are presented through their international sites, which no American state has licensed, so we present none of them here. This page lists no operators and no links to their sites; it explains how to recognise a licensed operator in the states that have them, what self-exclusion is and where to find help.

The states with licensed online casinos

In these states only an operator licensed by the state may offer online casino games, and the regulator tells you which sites it has authorised. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement puts it bluntly on its list of internet gaming sites: "Any site not included on this list is NOT approved to offer Internet gaming in the State of New Jersey."

In Maine the licences are reserved for the four Wabanaki Nations, and according to the notice of the state's Gambling Control Unit the rules of the market were still under public consultation until 30 October 2026, so nobody may yet offer online casino games there. In every state of the table the minimum age is 21 (not 18, as at many offshore sites), which in our view says a good deal about the distance between the two worlds!

Where promoting offshore sites is an offence

In six other states no online casino is licensed, and the law reaches whoever promotes or supports unauthorised online gambling, not only whoever runs it. Louisiana's law (R.S. 14:90.3(F), in force since 1 August 2026) covers any "promoter, endorser, media affiliate, or any other person who knowingly supports or facilitates" gambling by computer in the state, and Oklahoma's (21 O.S. § 941, in force from 1 November 2026) names the "promoter" and the "media affiliate" that "provides support" to online casino games.

Washington makes it a felony to transmit or receive "gambling information" online (RCW 9.46.240), and Montana punishes whoever "advertises for or solicits" unlawful gambling (MCA 23-5-154). Tennessee has made the "commercial promoting" of online gambling unlawful (Public Chapter 1117 of 2026), and New York punishes whoever "knowingly advances or profits from unlawful gambling activity" (Penal Law § 225.05). We draw the only conclusion that these laws allow for a site like ours, which is to name no operator at all to a reader in those states.

Self-exclusion

Self-exclusion works state by state. Each programme covers the operators that its state licenses: New Jersey's is managed by the Division of Gaming Enforcement, Pennsylvania's by the Gaming Control Board and Michigan's by the Gaming Control Board of that state, while Connecticut and Delaware run theirs through the agencies named in the table. If you want to keep away from offshore sites as well, blocking software on the device, described on our responsible gambling page, is the tool that reaches them, since they are outside every one of these lists.

Where to find help

The National Problem Gambling Helpline of the National Council on Problem Gambling answers on 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), by call or by text, and by chat at 1800myreset.org; the Council adopted the number on 29 January 2026, and the older 1-800-522-4700 still works. In New Jersey, 1-800-GAMBLER is the free line of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey.

Questions

Is online casino gambling legal in the United States?

Only in the states that license it (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island), and only with the operators that each state has authorised; Maine has approved it but not yet opened its market.

How can you check whether an online casino is licensed in your state?

Look for the site on the list that the state regulator publishes, such as the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement's list of internet gaming sites; a site that is not on it is not approved there.

Where can someone in the United States find help with gambling?

The National Problem Gambling Helpline answers on 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), by call, text or chat, and the state self-exclusion programmes close the accounts at every licensed operator of that state.
